The Galtaji Temple in Jaipur, famously known as the ”Monkey Temple,” is an ancient Hindu pilgrimage site set within a stunning mountain pass of the Aravalli Hills. It is widely celebrated for its natural beauty, unique architecture, and sweeping panoramic views of the entire Jaipur city. Galtaji is not merely a temple. The name ”Galtaji” derives from Rishi Galav, an enlightened sage from ancient times. According to legend, Rishi Galav performed severe penance here for many years, earning divine blessings. The gods, moved by his tapasya, created a perennial stream of holy water – belivied to never dry up, even in Rajasthan’s arid climate. The Sun Temple (Surya Mandir) located at the highest point of the hill, this temple is dedicated to the sun God. Reaching it requires a short trek, but it offers a majestic, unobstructed view of the temple complex winding through the gorge and the entire old city of Jaipur sprawled in the distance.
